Abstract: Analyses (δ¹⁸O) time series and greenhouse gas concentration data from Summit ice core, Greenland, to estimate amplitude of high-latitude air temperature changes and assess greenhouse gas contribution to climate variation in last 16500 years. Observes three types of temperature variability: 1) short-term (quasi-five year) cycle during last 1000 years); 2) 80-100 year cycle characterized by quasi-uniform intervals in last 16500 years; 3) long-term cycle characterized by essentially "momentary" climate changes. High-latitude temperature changes were three times greater in amplitude during Late Glacial than Holocene. Observes 30-50 year shifts between air temperature and methane concentration changes. Concludes "greenhouse" gas concentration changes played key role in rapid Late Glacial-Holocene climate changes, and methane concentration only may provide glacial-interglacial transition.
