| Abstract: | Determines rates of coastal retreat and thermocirque (form of complex destruction) growth on 26 km stretch of Yugorsky Peninsula from 1947-2001. Uses remote sensing data, topographic survey and monitoring network observations. Notes coast characterized by widespread thermodenudation at sites with tabular ground ice exposures, with specific complex of thermodenudation and thermoabrasion developing on coastal bluffs. Coastal thermocirques are characterized by high growth rates. Reports average retreat rates around 1 m/yr. |
