Glaciological application of INSAR topography data of western Vatnajökull acquired in 1998 / Eyjólfur Magnússon, Björnsson, Finnur Pálsson, Jørgen Dall.

Title: Glaciological application of INSAR topography data of western Vatnajökull acquired in 1998 / Eyjólfur Magnússon, Björnsson, Finnur Pálsson, Jørgen Dall.

In: Jökull. (2004.), Vol. 54 (2004)
Abstract: Presents glaciological applications of new digital elevation model (DEM) of western Vatnajökull derived from interferometric SAR (INSAR) data acquired in August 1998 with airborne EMISAR system. Defines ice divides and glacier outlets and water divides of rivers draining western Vatnajökull (assuming water pressure equals ice overburden). Also predicts main subglacial watercourses, using runoff measurements to adjust ambiguous water divide predictions. Notes significant water divide changes since 1980s, caused by recent surges and 1996 Gjálp eruption. Shows recent surges have reduced accumulation area ratios for some outlets by nearly 5%. Examines previously unrecognised depression in Köldukvíslarjökull snout, revealed by DEM and most likely reflecting geothermal activity.
