| Abstract: | Studies physical properties of ice from P96 core drilled in area of high melt. Examines how these relate to ice structure and their interpretation in terms of climatic signals. Presents and discusses melt feature percentages, crystal sizes, crystal orientation fabrics and their development, ice flow history, annual time scale based on crystal size stratigraphy, accumulated vertical strain, and derived palaeoclimatic information. Observes evidence for Holocene summer climatic changes: a warm period prior to 2 kyr BP, Little Ice Age, and modern warming. Fabric indicates change from divergence- to shear-dominated flow at 140 m depth. |
