Record #173379:

The glaciers of Mount Kenya 1899-2004 / Stefan Hastenrath.

Title: The glaciers of Mount Kenya 1899-2004 / Stefan Hastenrath.
Author(s): Hastenrath, Stefan.
Date: 2005.
In: Erdkunde. (2005.), Vol. 59(2) (2005)
Abstract: Presents map documenting century-long history of glacier recession on Mount Kenya, combining early observation from end of 19th century to 1940s with series of 10 photogrammetric mappings from 1947 to 2004. Tabulates and maps areal changes of eighteen ice entities; one may have disappeared before 1926, five after 1926, one after 1978, and one after 1993. All others shrank substantially, especially from 1970s on. Briefly summarises ice cover history for nearby Kilimanjaro.
