| Abstract: | Describes those elements of CryoSat mission not to be launched into space. Mission aims to determine by radar small height-related changes in polar ice over a three-year period. Covers systems architecture, control and processing centres, operations concept, data products, user interaction, and validation. Explains need for repeated validation experiments, at different times of year, and all spatial scales, to assess errors due to variable penetration of radar signal into snow cover. Includes example proposals from scientific groups aiming to exploit mission's potential. |
