Record #173371:

CryoSat: a mission to the ice fields of the Earth / Duncan Wingham.

Title: CryoSat: a mission to the ice fields of the Earth / Duncan Wingham.
Author(s): Wingham, Duncan.
Date: 2005.
In: ESA Bulletin. (2005.), Vol. 122 (2005)
Abstract: Summarizes scientific background and objectives of European Space Agency's (ESA's) first mission dedicated to observation of Earth's polar ice. Mission aims to determine trends and variability of Arctic sea ice and whether ice sheets of Greenland and Antarctica are threatened by global warming. Assesses current state of knowledge and whether "thaw" has started. Reviews scientific contribution from ESA's ERS satellites and requirements from CryoSat, including technical challenges and cost considerations.
