| Abstract: | Determines glaciation chronology of Wrangel Island using ¹⁰Be and ²⁶Al cosmogenic isotope exposure age dating of 22 tors and other bedrock surfaces. Describes island's landforms and deposits and discusses age of landscape. Results indicate East Siberian and Chukchi shelves were ice-free during Last Glacial Maximum, with Wrangel Island also free of extensive glacial ice. Attributes this to lack of moisture due to continental climate on emergent Bering land bridge. Suggests alternative interpretations be considered regarding age and origin of "glaciogenic" bedforms on Chukchi shelf. |
