Abstract: Describes morphological change of Wruptu glacier, and discusses processes of build-up of supraglacial debris on tongue-shaped hill in front of debris-free glacier snout. Uses topographic maps from 1983 and 2003 to calculate elevation changes of glacier and debris hill. Main valley glacier front retreated over 100 m. Debris hill surface fell by 5-10 m. Proposes scenario of main glacier advancing and overriding pre-existing stagnant ice. Debris rich basal ice is deposited. Main glacier retreats leaving debris mantle covering original stagnant ice. Subsequent melt leads to fall of debris hill surface.
