Abstract: | Analyses snow and ice samples from snow pit and underlying ice layers in Sofiyskiy Glacier for n-alkanes by gas chromatography. Total concentrations of n-alkanes (T-HCs) ranged widely, from 0.67 to 9.86 ng g⁻¹. Deposition fluxes were higher during spring than autumn. Carbon preference index (CPI) of n-alkanes ranged from 0.95 to 3.35, similar to values reported in snow samples in Himalaya and urban aerosols. Higher values were close to those of plant wax origin reported in loess particles. Discusses changes in relative contributions of WaxCₙ and non-WaxCₙ, inferring possible recent increase from anthropogenic sources (e.g., fossil fuel combustion products) |
