Numerical simulation of glacial-valley cross-section evolution / Hakime Seddik, Shin Sugiyama, Renji Naruse.

Title: Numerical simulation of glacial-valley cross-section evolution / Hakime Seddik, Shin Sugiyama, Renji Naruse.

Date: 2005.
In: Bulletin of Glaciological Research. (2005.), Vol. 22 (2005)
Abstract: Presents numerical model simulating development of U-shaped valleys by coupling model of ice flow model in a transverse section with a subglacial erosion model. Two-dimensional flow field is calculated considering side-wall drag and basal-stress dependent sliding. With glacial erosion modelled as quadratic function of sliding speed, V-shaped profile evolves rapidly into recognizable glacial form with sliding velocities ranging from 3 to 8 m a⁻¹. Investigates influence of lateral shear stress component on U-shaped valley formation.
