Assessment of glacier shrinkage from the maximum in the Little Ice Age in the Suntar-Khayata Range, North-East Siberia / Maria D. Ananicheva, Michael M. Koreisha, Shuhei Takahashi.

Title: Assessment of glacier shrinkage from the maximum in the Little Ice Age in the Suntar-Khayata Range, North-East Siberia / Maria D. Ananicheva, Michael M. Koreisha, Shuhei Takahashi.

In: Bulletin of Glaciological Research. (2005.), Vol. 22 (2005)
Abstract: Presents new estimates and preliminary analysis of some key glacier's shrinkage in Northern and Southern massifs of Suntar-Khayata Range, based on expedition data, air photos of 1940s and 1970s, and evidence of glacial changes in Cherskiy Range from literature. Glaciers 29-31 in Northern Massif shrank at almost linear rate over 1957-1970-2001, faster than from Little Ice Age maximum to 1950s. Analyses glacier length and terminal moraine extent in Northern and Southern massifs to show greater shrinkage in South, due to difference in climate. South is under Pacific cyclonic activity, winter temperatures are much higher and precipitation heavier, making glaciers warmer. Glacier shrinkage in Cherskiy Range from LIA to 1972 was comparable with that in Suntar-Khayata Northern Massif.
