Record #173350:

A large amount of biogenic surface dust (cryoconite) on a glacier in the Qilian Mountains, China / Nozomu Takeuchi, Yoshihiro Matsuda, Akiko Sakai, Koji Fujita.

Title: A large amount of biogenic surface dust (cryoconite) on a glacier in the Qilian Mountains, China / Nozomu Takeuchi, Yoshihiro Matsuda, Akiko Sakai, Koji Fujita.
Author(s): Takeuchi, Nozomu.

Date: 2005.
In: Bulletin of Glaciological Research. (2005.), Vol. 22 (2005)
Abstract: Reports collection and analysis of surface dust from July 1st (Qiyi) Glacier. Compares dust cover characteristics with those other glaciers across world. Dry weight was high, from 30.4 to 873 g m⁻², comparable to that on Himalayan glaciers. High levels of organic matter, including living cyanobacteria, suggest dust is both deposit of wind-blown desert sand and product of microbial activity on glacier. Discusses spatial variations in surface albedo and effects of surface dust on it.
