Abstract: | Seeks method for extracting accurate snow covered area (SCA) maps from low spatial resolution data. Investigates reference value methods and "improved" methods combining low spatial and high temporal resolution (SPOT-VEGETATION) with high spatial and low temporal resolution (Landsat-TM) data. Validates new methods against snow maps derived from classification of high spatial resolution data on Atlas range, Morocco. Applies to one-year series of SPOT-4 VEGETATION images to derive temporal snow cover profile at 1 km resolution over entire Atlas. Describes site, imagery, ground data and digital elevation model used. New approach improves relationship between snow index and snow area. |
