Record #173280:

An ethnographer's early years: Boris Dolgikh as enumerator for the 1926/27 polar census / Sergei S. Savolskul.

Title: An ethnographer's early years: Boris Dolgikh as enumerator for the 1926/27 polar census / Sergei S. Savolskul.
Author(s): Savolskul, Sergei S.
Date: 2005.
In: Polar Record. (2005.), Vol. 41(218) (2005)
Abstract: Gives account of first field expedition of Boris Osipovich Dolgikh to carry out census among Kety, Nganasany, Evenki and Dolgany of central Siberia. Argues that this experience forged his identity as ethnographer and that 1926/27 census was cradle for careers of many other researchers. Introduction by David Anderson comments critically on link between his early survey work and eventual state-led restructuring of lives of Siberian peoples. Article celebrates centenary of Dolgikh's birth.
