Record #172739:

Demography and viability of a hunted population of polar bears / Mitchell K. Taylor, and 7 others.

Title: Demography and viability of a hunted population of polar bears / Mitchell K. Taylor, and 7 others.
Author(s): Taylor, Mitchell K.
Date: 2005.
In: Arctic. (2005.), Vol. 58(2) (2005)
Abstract: Study estimated demographic parameters and harvest risks for polar bears (Ursus maritimus) in Baffin Bay, Canada and Greeenland, 1974-1997. Capture and mark-recapture analysis on 1221 polar bears provided data on age- and sex-specific survival and recruitment. Using estimated harvest of 88 bears/yr in Baffin Bay, current hunt is sustainable, as 0.95 probability that population would decline no more than could be recovered in five years.
