Abstract: Natural Resources Defense Council, Greenpeace and Center for Biological Diversity have petitioned U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to list polar bear Ursus maritimus as threatened species under U.S. Endangered Species Act. Agency is investigating traditional knowledge study which increased sports hunt quota to 518. Move threatens $1 million annual income for Nunavut.
