Record #172574:

Population size, distribution and origins of Antarctic terns Sterna vittata wintering in South Africa / A.J. Tree, N.T.W. Klages.

Title: Population size, distribution and origins of Antarctic terns Sterna vittata wintering in South Africa / A.J. Tree, N.T.W. Klages.
Author(s): Tree, A. J.
Klages, N. T. W.
Date: 2004.
In: Marine Ornithology. (2004.), Vol. 32(1) (2004)
Abstract: Survey of South African coastline in August 2001 gave total of approximately 9,500 Antarctic terns, which corrected to include birds remaining at sea during inclement weather came to about 12,800 birds. Numbers in Eastern Cape showed apparent increase from counts made in 1970s and 1980s, whereas three sections of Western Cape declined. Distribution of four subspecies was tentatively assessed, and there was little indication of movement between cluster sites.
