| Abstract: | Presents analysis of beak-opening activities of free-living krill-feeding chinstrap penguin in waters off Signy Island, South Orkney Islands, in relation to diving behaviour, and compares with similar data from free-living Magellanic penguins feeding on fish and squid. Preliminary results from use of recently developed beak-angle sensor show linear relationship between number of depth wiggles during dive and number of underwater beak-opening events, suggesting that relative feeding intensity of each dive could be represented by depth-profile data. |
