Record #172405:

Terrestrial nematodes of the Antarctic region: taxonomy, biogeography and an ecological study / N.R. Maslen.

Title: Terrestrial nematodes of the Antarctic region: taxonomy, biogeography and an ecological study / N.R. Maslen.
Author(s): Maslen, N. R.
Date: 1979.
Publisher: [Reading] :
Abstract: Describes all known continental and maritime Antarctic nematode taxa and closely related sub-Antarctic species, including a number of taxa recorded for the first time. Discusses distribution of taxa within and between zones, and different levels of generic and specific endemisms. Numerous endemisms suggest that many species are relics of ancient fauna which survived Pleistocene glaciation, with non-endemic species representing post-Pleistocene penetrant element from cold temperate zone. Presents results of 1973-74 survey of nematode fauna from moss turf and swamp moss carpet of Signy Island Terrestrial Reference Sites (SIRS), including coefficients of dispersion, vertical distribution, mean oxygen consumption and moss respiration.
Notes:

Unpublished thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, Zoology Department, University of Reading.
