Record #172365:

Tidal-tectonic processes and their implications for the character of Europa's icy crust / Richard Greenberg, Paul Geissler, Gregory Hoppa, B.R. Tufts.

Title: Tidal-tectonic processes and their implications for the character of Europa's icy crust / Richard Greenberg, Paul Geissler, Gregory Hoppa, B.R. Tufts.
Author(s): Greenberg, Richard.
Geissler, Paul.
Hoppa, Gregory.
Tufts, B. R.
Date: 2002.
In: Reviews of Geophysics. (2002.), Vol. 40(2) (2002)
Abstract: Reviews how quantitative assessment of image data from Galileo spacecraft and models of geophysical processes have advanced understanding of Europa's icy crust. Conducts introductory tour of Europa's surface, describing terrain and implications for history, structure and habitability. Discusses orbits and tides, and interpretation of images in terms of rotation rate, tectonic effects of tidal stress, etc. Describes potentially habitable setting, in which tidal flow through working cracks links icy surface with ocean beneath.
