| Abstract: | Reports weather and glacier statistics in Swiss Alps, 2001-2003. Presents observations of length changes of around 100 glaciers. All but five retreated in 2001/2, all retreated in 2002/3, by up to 159 metres. Presents cumulative length changes over last century for Suretta, Damma, Brunegg, Rhone and Grosser Aletsch glaciers, and cumulative mass balance changes since 1960 for Basòdino, Silvreatta and Gries glaciers. Presents maps of summer temperature and precipitation for 2002 and 2003. Discusses weather, glacier length changes and mass budgets, and record heatwave of summer 2003. |
