Record #172324:
Quaternary glaciation of the sub-Antarctic islands / Kevin Hall.
Title: | Quaternary glaciation of the sub-Antarctic islands / Kevin Hall. |
Author(s): | Hall, Kevin. |
Date: | 2004. |
Publisher: | Amsterdam: Elsevier |
In: | Quaternary glaciations - extent and chronology : Part III South America, Asia, Australia, Antarctica. (2004.), |
Abstract: | Presents limited knowledge of current and former glaciation of Bouvetøya, Heard Island, Macquarie Island, Îles Crozet and Kerguelen, Marion and Prince Edward Islands, Falkland Islands, and South Georgia. Views much information for sub-Antarctic islands as speculative. Tectonic and volcanic activity means areal and altitudinal extents have changed dramatically during Quaternary, so that little beyond Little Ice Age, or at best, Last Glacial Maximum can be identified. Notes potential value of information from latitudinal gap between southern continents and Antarctica, and either side of Antarctic Convergence. Complementary digital maps on CD included with volume. |
