Record #172322:

Quaternary glaciation in the high mountains of central and north-east Asia / Vladimir S. Sheinkman.

Title: Quaternary glaciation in the high mountains of central and north-east Asia / Vladimir S. Sheinkman.
Author(s): Sheinkman, Vladimir S.
Date: 2004.
Publisher: Amsterdam: Elsevier
In: Quaternary glaciations - extent and chronology : Part III South America, Asia, Australia, Antarctica. (2004.),
Abstract: Characterises Quaternary glaciation of mountain belt surrounding Siberia to south and east by interaction of glaciers and permafrost. Notes icings occupied great areas and were comparable with glaciers in volume and geological work. Outlines debate over whether interior of Siberia has been too dry to have seen extensive Pleistocene glaciation. Describes reconstruction method based on studying complete cryo-glacial system (CGS), illustrating CGS functioning, structure, types and occurrence. Concludes Quaternary glaciers in Siberian mountains were confined within trough valleys, reaching piedmont areas only during maximal advance. Largest, in north-east, exceeded 150 km in length. Complementary digital maps on CD included with volume.
