Record #172319:

Quaternary glaciations in the high mountains of northern Pakistan / Ulrich Kamp, Klaus Haserodt.

Title: Quaternary glaciations in the high mountains of northern Pakistan / Ulrich Kamp, Klaus Haserodt.
Author(s): Kamp, Ulrich.
Haserodt, Klaus.
Date: 2004.
Publisher: Amsterdam: Elsevier
In: Quaternary glaciations - extent and chronology : Part III South America, Asia, Australia, Antarctica. (2004.),
Abstract: Discusses comparability of definitions and data and examines evidence from: Hindu Kush and Kohistan; Karakoram; and west Himalayas. Presents reconstructions of ice extent, chronologies of glacier advances and retreats, results of absolute datings, and recent and Last Glacial equilibrium lines. Concludes glaciations identified are younger than previously thought, with those of Marine Isotope Stages (MIS) 4 and 3 occurring synchronously throughout area, and that of Late Würmian (MIS 2) asynchronous with eastern Himalayas and rest of northern hemisphere. Seeks possible cause in regional climatic conditions, particularly fluctuations in precipitation from monsoon, rather than high rates of uplift and erosion. Complementary digital maps on CD included with volume.
