| Abstract: | Describes chronology based on glacial landforms of Iztaccíhuatl, Nevado de Toluca and La Malinche, revising previously proposed stratigraphies. Reconstructs Late Quaternary advances from field observations, tephra studies, laboratory analyses, ¹⁴C dates, ³⁶Cl exposure ages and literature. Evidence of glaciation exists on thirteen volcanoes, with most extensive (Nexcoalango) advance during MIS 6 ~ 195,000 BP and five Late Glacial and early Holocene glaciations recognised. Correlates glacial record of Iztaccíhuatl with other sequences and discusses equilibrium line altitude depressions for Late Quaternary advances in terms of palaeoclimate. Complementary digital maps on CD included with volume. |
