Record #172309:

Glaciation of Malaysia and Indonesia, excluding New Guinea / Geoff S. Hope.

Title: Glaciation of Malaysia and Indonesia, excluding New Guinea / Geoff S. Hope.
Author(s): Hope, Geoff S.
Date: 2004.
Publisher: Amsterdam: Elsevier
In: Quaternary glaciations - extent and chronology : Part III South America, Asia, Australia, Antarctica. (2004.),
Abstract: Describes evidence, primarily from cirques and moraines, of glaciation extending over 5.5 km² of Mount Kinabalu, Malaysia. Very steep slopes below 3600 m prevent establishment of former equilibrium line altitude, but snowline may have been below this. Suggests deglaciation was complete by end of Pleistocene, around c. 10,000 cal yr BP. Discusses possibility of earlier glaciation. Regards at least three Sumateran mountains, Mounts Kemiri, Lesuer and Bandahar as formerly glaciated. Based on better studied Pleistocene snowline and former glacial limits of New Guinea, identifies several other Indonesian mountains that may have supported ice cover. Complementary digital maps on CD included with volume.
