Record #172307:

The High Glacial (Last ice Age and LGM) ice cover in High and Central Asia / Matthias Kuhle.

Title: The High Glacial (Last ice Age and LGM) ice cover in High and Central Asia / Matthias Kuhle.
Author(s): Kuhle, Matthias.
Date: 2004.
Publisher: Amsterdam: Elsevier
In: Quaternary glaciations - extent and chronology : Part III South America, Asia, Australia, Antarctica. (2004.),
Abstract: Describes common view of Last Glacial Maximum extent, in which ice covered 10-20% of mountains and plateaux of Tibet. Contrasts this with view held by author and some others of much more extensive glaciation. Gives well-illustrated account of geomorphological evidence from author's work and describes dating methods in some detail. Presents chronology of glacial stages in High Asia (i.e., in and surrounding Tibet) from 150 ka BP to present, and profile of present-day and Würm (LGM) snowlines across northern Tian Shan, Tarim basin, Tibetan plateau and Himalaya. Discusses climatological-ecological consequences of Pleistocene glaciation in High Asia. Complementary digital maps on CD included with volume.
