Record #172304:

Late Quaternary glaciations of Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia / Bryan G. Mark, Geoffrey O. Seltzer, Donald T. Rodbell.

Title: Late Quaternary glaciations of Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia / Bryan G. Mark, Geoffrey O. Seltzer, Donald T. Rodbell.
Author(s): Mark, Bryan G.
Seltzer, Geoffrey O.
Rodbell, Donald T.
Date: 2004.
Publisher: Amsterdam: Elsevier
In: Quaternary glaciations - extent and chronology : Part III South America, Asia, Australia, Antarctica. (2004.),
Abstract: Reviews late Pleistocene glaciation, basing chronology on seven principal sites: Potrerillos plateau, Ecuador; Cordillera Vilcanota-Quelccaya ice cap, Peru; Junin plain, Peru; Cordillera Blanca, Peru; Cordillera Oriental, Peru; Cordilleras Aplobamba and Real, Peru-Bolivia; and Altiplano, Bolivia. Most extensive advance pre-dates MIS 2. Nested moraines indicate multiple advances during last glacial cycle. Discusses evidence from pre-Weichselian, Late Weichselian/Wisconsinan glacial maximum (LGM), deglaciation from LGM and Holocene, and mapping of limits. Outstanding questions include extent and timing of LGM and nature/timing of climate change in tropical Andes and northern Atlantic during Younger Dryas. Complementary digital maps on CD included with volume.
