| Abstract: | Presents glacial geology of Costa Rica and Guatemala. Cordillera de Talamanca in Chirripó Park of Costa Rica had c. 35 km² ice cover during Local Last Glacial Maximum. Presents LLGM palaeoglacier reconstructions for area. Moraine groups define three glacial stages and suggest Late Pleistocene equilibrium line depression of c. 1500 m. Discusses evidence for smaller glaciers elsewhere in Costa Rica. In Guatemala, high plateau of Los Cuchumatanes supported ice-cap of c. 60 km². Without absolute dating, suggests these moraines are Late Pleistocene, perhaps sharing chronology of Mexican glaciers. Complementary digital maps on CD included with volume. |
