Record #172293:

Quaternary glacial and climate history of Antarctica / Ólafur Ingólfsson.

Title: Quaternary glacial and climate history of Antarctica / Ólafur Ingólfsson.
Author(s): Ingólfsson, Ólafur.
Date: 2004.
Publisher: Amsterdam: Elsevier
In: Quaternary glaciations - extent and chronology : Part III South America, Asia, Australia, Antarctica. (2004.),
Abstract: Reviews glacial and climate history of Antarctica, with brief summary of pre-Quaternary, general overview of Pleistocene, and more detailed reviews of late Quaternary (including Holocene) glacial and climate development. Focuses on Antarctic Peninsula and Ross Sea/Victoria Land regions and terrestrial record, referring elsewhere for marine record. Summarizes (probably) Eocene onset of glaciation, and extensive Miocene glaciations of both East and West Antarctica. Describes terrestrial, marine and ice-core methods for reconstructing history since Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), and age control. Reviews LGM, deglaciation and Holocene environmental development, mid-Holocene readvances and neoglaciation 3-0.1 ka BP. Presents synthesis for post-LGM changes, concluding Antarctic deglaciation and Holocene climate development lagged behind Northern Hemisphere. Complementary digital maps on CD included with volume.
