Date: 2004.
Language: Russian.
In: Kriosfera Zemli. (2004.), Vol. 8(3) (2004)
Abstract: Presents novel methodology for research of debris flow basins in mountain cryolithozone. Adds mobile field mapping using GPS, digital photography, and GIS to traditional techniques. Describes methodology development and application to monitoring debris flow in Gerkhozhan-SU river valley, central Caucasus. Monitoring framework takes into account stages of development for debris flow origination sites and basin's individual features, e.g., dynamic development of terrain in certain parts and presence of buried stagnant ice at debris flow origination sites. Discusses problems and prospects of monitoring. Suggests structure for interactive GIS for assessing debris flow danger on basis of regularly updated information.
