Translated title: The 2002 Genaldon glacial catastrophe: one year later.

Date: 2004.
Language: Russian.
In: Kriosfera Zemli. (2004.), Vol. 8(1) (2004)
Abstract: Assesses state of upper and middle parts of area affected by 20 September 2002 Genaldon glacier catastrophe in Caucasus. On basis of field data and high-resolution satellite imagery, analyses changes during year following event and maps glacier cirque. Estimates 80 ± 15 million m³ of Kolka glacier were moved. Describes continuous daytime rockfalls in upper part of cirque and frequent small debris flows in summer 2003. Reports ice body in Karmadon depression being dissected by crevasses. Ice here will mostly melt in next 2-3 years, with complete degradation taking at least 10 years. Of 13 lakes formed at end of September 2002, three remained by end of summer 2003. Expects no new catastrophic processes in next 10 to 20 years.
