Record #172252:

Interannual variability of Hudson Bay ice thickness / William A. Gough, Alexandre S. Gagnon, Pang Lau Ho.

Title: Interannual variability of Hudson Bay ice thickness / William A. Gough, Alexandre S. Gagnon, Pang Lau Ho.
Author(s): Gough, William A.
Gagnon, Alexandre S.
Ho, Pang Lau.
Date: 2005.
In: Polar Geography. (2005.), Vol. 28(3) (2005)
Abstract: Examines ice thickness data from nine locations in Hudson Bay, assessing importance of both winter and summer air temperatures, and snow depth. Summarizes seasonal sea-ice variation and significance for local people and wildlife. Describes ice thickness measurement by Canadian Ice Service for years 1961-1990. Calculates correlation between winter ice thickness and previous summer air temperatures to determine importance of water preconditioning prior to sea-ice formation. Regresses ice thickness on air temperatures (coincident winter and previous summer) and snow depth to ascertain influence of each on inter-annual ice thickness variability. Discusses results and implications for detection of early climate change signal over Hudson Bay.
