Abstract: Uses time-dependent numerical model with 10-11 km resolution to simulate ice sheet development along flowline in south-western Norway. Describes model and input based on GCM results, local proxy data and GISP2 δ¹⁸ O record. Presents results of experiments using 311 km flowline from present-day water divide at Jostedalsbreen, through Nordfjord, onto shelf and beyond shelf edge. Discusses time evolution of lateral ice extent and ice thickness and compares with geological record. Supports theory of relatively thin ice sheet that did not cover all mountain peaks in western Norway at last maximum extent, noting contrast with other reconstructions and supporting geological evidence.
