Hypothesis on glacial morphology on Amba Aradam mountain (northern Ethiopia) / Mario Panizza.
Title: | Hypothesis on glacial morphology on Amba Aradam mountain (northern Ethiopia) / Mario Panizza. |
Author(s): | Panizza, Mario. |
Date: | 2004. |
In: | Prace Geograficzne. (2004.), Vol. 189 (2004) |
Abstract: | Describes geomorphologic features observed in area south-west of Makalé, in Tigray region, at altitude 2500-2780 m a.s.l. These include apparent glacial cirques, moraine, roches moutonnées, etc. Notes restriction of previous reporting of glacial landforms in Ethiopia to much higher elevations. Suggests east-west trending narrow and deep valley, sheltered from wind, could have favoured Pleistocene snow and ice presence and advocates other surveys and climate reconstruction. Proposes alternative hypothesis of "geomorphologic convergence", i.e., coincidence of features of various origins. |
Notes: | Prace Geograficzne. Vol. 189 :283-298 (2004). Polish abstract. |
