| Abstract: | Examines glacial lakes and sediments and landforms they left behind in northern Poland. Seeks genetic and spatial linkage between lakes, different types of ice-sheet ice and their meltwaters, and geological and geomorphological traces of lake existence. Reviews available evidence for Pleni- and Late Vistulian lakes and associated deposits and landforms. Concludes northern Poland saw numerous glacial lakes. Some, originating in Pleni-Vistulian in zone of stagnant and dead ice, were fed by melt waters of active ice. Others, younger, rarer, small and short lived, were ice-dammed lakes arising from damming of outflow of dead ice and fed by its melting. |
