Abstract: Present uses of DC resistivity imaging to map and characterise frozen ground. Describes data acquisition and inversion in application to delineate frozen ground and ice cores within rock glaciers in Daisetsu mountains of northern Japan and Kanchenjunga Himal of Nepal, and Mongolian case study, in which permafrost underlying talus slope was imaged once per month during thawing period. Discusses results from Mongolia, need for supplementary temperature measurements, and hydrological application of technique. Concludes technique valuable for delineating extent and thickness of isolated frozen ground, identifying and delineating buried ground ice bodies, and monitoring ground water contents of active layer and permafrost even in inhomogeneous areas.
