Record #172186:

Frost heave process of porous materials and its macroscopic ice lens initiation mechanism / Satoshi Akagawa.

Title: Frost heave process of porous materials and its macroscopic ice lens initiation mechanism / Satoshi Akagawa.
Author(s): Akagawa, Satoshi.
Date: 2004.
Language: Japanese.
In: Seppyo : Journal of the Japanese Society of Snow and Ice. (2004.), Vol. 66(2) (2004)
Abstract: Outlines frost heave process deduced from recent research. Discusses phenomenological features of frost heave and a microscopic structure model of ice lens vicinity, and demonstrates process of ice lens growth. Proposes macroscopic mechanism of ice lens initiation, which gives initial condition of segregating ice lens in heaving. Describes mechanism of ice lens initiation by breaking structure in which pressure of pore ice overcomes overburden pressure and tensile strength of structure. Discusses with experimental data a simultaneously functioning process which depresses local unfrozen water pressure, a necessary condition for ice lens segregation.
