Abstract: Gas chromatography of n-alkanes in surface sediments appear as double peaks in Chukchi and Bering seas. Results suggest that input of terrigenous origin in Chukchi Sea is larger than that in Bering Sea, but productivity in latter is higher. Comparison is made with Antarctic and Chinese waters, indicating that terrigenous characteristics weaken while marine biological inputs strengthen from high to low latitudes.
