Abstract: Discusses methods of obtaining ice/snow thicknesses from ship-side videos and ice concentrations from aerial photos. Both datasets were collected during Second Chinese National Arctic Research Expedition (CHINARE-2003) of July and September, 2003. Adopts Ostu threshold algorithm (maximum class variance method). Illustrates measures to be taken in analysis and in-situ investigation processes to improve parameter reliability.
