Translated title: | The glacial formations of the Late Precambrian and the end of the Ordovician in west Africa: two examples of glaciation of an inland ice sheet on a stable platform. |
Author(s): | Deynoux, Max. |
Date: | 1980. |
Language: | French. |
Abstract: | Sets Late Precambrian and Upper Ordovician glaciations in stratigraphic and structural framework of west Africa. Describes sedimentary succession of cratonic area and evolution toward peripheral mobile belts. Correlates mainly azoic sequences on lithostratigraphic (especially glacial) markers and proposes schematic model. Describes complex stratigraphic successions of glacial sequences where studied in detail (essentially Mauretania). Synthesises 113 sections of appendix and justifies proposed facies and structure interpretations. Identifies several glacial phases in two glaciations, describing and analysing examples in comparison with Quaternary or modern occurrences. Bases uniformitarian viewpoint on bibliography and field examples from Canada, Sweden and Iceland. Presents and compares west-African-scale paleogeographic constructions for each glaciation. |
Notes: | 113 index illustrations in annexe held with unpublished thesis of same title. English abstract. |
