Abstract: Digitally recorded sea-ice draft data from eight submarine cruises, 1987-1997, show a decrease in ice thickness of 1m over 11 years. RMS discrepancy between modelled and observed draft is 0.3 m and correlation is 0.98. Reviews reports of interannual variations of ice thickness or volume from other model studies. All models agree on decrease from 1987 to 1996, with modest recovery from 1996 to 1999.
