Abstract: 1753 posthumous near-copy of portrait was from original of 1747, also described. Article describes dress and tattoo in detail and significance of, inter alia, colour of hairband. Original was painted in Norway, where sitter had gone with missionary Arnoldus Sylow. Poul Egede wanted to use Maria's gifts as language assistant, but mission college wanted her back in Greenland. Cause of death unknown.
