Abstract: Leden was born in 1882. originally organist, interest in world music took him to Berlin and contact with Thalbitzer and in 1909 he joined Rasmussen to collect articles for Berlin Museum in Thule area. He took phonograph and recorded 48 songs, including drum dances, replacing waltzes on cylinder. In 1912 he did similar work in West Greenland, besides getting psalms, game tunes, song duels and stories. Author has transcribed Leden's collection, which later extended to Ammassalik, Canada and South America, and was used by Leden in an extensive lecturing life.
