In: Rangifer. (2004.), Vol. 24(1) (2004)
Abstract: Study aimed to discover how to stimulate milk ejection in deer kept for this purpose. Five does were allowed to smell, hear and see calves during milking, while four were kept isolated, with treatment alternating over eight days. Then same alternating design was used on three and two does over four days, with two seconds' suckling before milking. Authors concluded that machine milking would be complete if does were pre-stimulated by suckling; contact during milking had no effect.
