Record #171115:

Beaver damming and palsa dynamics in a subarctic mountainous environment, Wolf Creek, Yukon Territory, Canada / Antoni G. Lewkowicz, Tara L. Coultish.

Title: Beaver damming and palsa dynamics in a subarctic mountainous environment, Wolf Creek, Yukon Territory, Canada / Antoni G. Lewkowicz, Tara L. Coultish.
Author(s): Lewkowicz, Antoni G.
Coultish, Tara L.
Date: 2004.
In: Arctic, Antarctic, and Alpine Research. (2004.), Vol. 36(2) (2004)
Abstract: Examines effects of beaver (Castor canadensis) dams on growth, longevity and decay of palsas at altitudinal treeline in southern Yukon. Palsas interpreted as originating from sedimentation in beaver ponds, where peat forms due to poor drainage. Drainage of ponds by dam breach was succeeded by mound formation in aggrading permafrost.
