Record #171019:

The glacial history of the Barents and Kara sea region / John Inge Svendsen, Valery Gataullin, Jan Mangerud, Leonid Polyak.

Title: The glacial history of the Barents and Kara sea region / John Inge Svendsen, Valery Gataullin, Jan Mangerud, Leonid Polyak.
Author(s): Svendsen, John Inge.
Gataullin, Valery.
Mangerud, Jan.
Polyak, Leonid.
Date: 2004.
Publisher: Amsterdam: Elsevier
In: Quaternary glaciations - extent and chronology : Part I Europe. (2004.),
Abstract: Complements digital maps included with volume. Summarises Quaternary ice sheet history and reconstructs (much debated) ice extent at Last Glacial Maximum, 13 ka BP and Younger Dryas. Area saw up to four major glaciations during last 150 ka, but large ice sheets apparently represent rather short-lived events. Shelf-centred ice sheets expanded far into Russian mainland several times, possibly being fringed at some point by thick ice shelf. Entire continental shelf was ice-covered during Late Saalian. Describes Weichselian evidence and chronology. Presents time-distance diagrams of advances of north-western (Svalbard) and south-eastern (northern Russia) flanks during last 150 ka. Describes step-like deglaciation around 15-10 ka BP, Younger Dryas and final deglaciation.
