Record #171018:

The Swiss glacial record - a schematic summary / Christian Schlüchter.

Title: The Swiss glacial record - a schematic summary / Christian Schlüchter.
Author(s): Schlüchter, Christian.
Date: 2004.
Publisher: Amsterdam: Elsevier
In: Quaternary glaciations - extent and chronology : Part I Europe. (2004.),
Abstract: Complements digital maps included with volume. Palaeoglacial record of Swiss Alps and their forelands indicates at least 15 independent ice advances or glaciations. Deckenschotter aggradations relate to glaciations with 8 advances of Upper Pliocene to >800 ka age. Describes importance of recently recognised major ice domes in SE, central and SW Alps to palaeoglacial reconstructions. Comments on north-south asymmetry. Outlines last glacial cycle and Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), noting key sites and suggesting three-phase advance/retreat system with early advance in MIS 5d and LGM in MIS 2. Discusses chronology of most extensive glaciation, interglacial sequences, and use of advanced dating techniques.
