Record #171012:

Evidence for several ice marginal positions in east central Ireland, and their relationship to the Drumlin Readvance theory / Robert Meehan.

Title: Evidence for several ice marginal positions in east central Ireland, and their relationship to the Drumlin Readvance theory / Robert Meehan.
Author(s): Meehan, Robert.
Date: 2004.
Publisher: Amsterdam: Elsevier
In: Quaternary glaciations - extent and chronology : Part I Europe. (2004.),
Abstract: Complements digital maps included with volume. Summarizes 1993-1999 study of Quaternary glacigenic and postglacial deposits on north-eastern margin of Irish central lowlands. Combined with morphological data, sedimentology provides striking record of glaciation and deglaciation, appearing to reflect continuous record of ice retreat across area at 19 to 16 kyr BP. No evidence for regional readvance associated with drumlinisation was found, nor any for large-scale lake in central Meath during deglaciation. Suggests model of systematic retreat of ice from south to north be replaced with one in which ice broke up into number of lobes without major readvance. Cites evidence from recently produced high-resolution DEM-based morphological maps in support.
